Foreign Language

The Stanford Language Center provides foreign language instruction that is proficiency-oriented and standards-based.  The Language Center’s Annual Report to the Committee on Undergraduate Standards and Policy presents results of proficiency assessments using a nationally recognized instrument, the Foreign Service Institute/American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages scale (FSI-ACTFL scale).  Each report presents results of both oral and written proficiency after one and two years of instruction.
